About Us

Martin Paul, webmaster Political Cartoons Australia

I love watching Barrie Cassidy’s Insiders and, in particular, Mike Bowers’ Talking Pictures. There was so much I was missing in my superficial flip through the (digital) newspapers each morning. So I thought I would throw together a blog that showcases the best of Australia’s Political Cartooning, (for my own personal use*).

Please Note – all images are the copyright of the respective artists and publishers. I make no claim over the images and republish them on a non-commercial basis .

In most cases I have preserved the link back to the original source. (Can’t do it for every one or else I will lose too much link juice.) Ultimately this is a thank you note to all the great cartoonists and political commentators that keep us entertained. Thanks also to the subjects of the toons – the politicians, leaders and public figures – without whom our life would be dull and full of American television celebrity news.

No express permission has been granted to use these images. This is simply a forum to retweet the fantastic work of some very creative and insightful Australians. The future of newspapers may be uncertain, but long may the cartoonist live to reign over us.

In the spirit of “digital commons” I propose to use them with full attribution to the owners as per the Creative Commons Attribution licence. If you are an owner and do not want me to reproduce your work please advise and I will abide by your request accordingly.

August 2012 Update: I extremely grateful to the Fairfax newspapers for keeping the access to their newspapers open. I am having great difficulty getting into some of the News Limited sites. Even when I sign up to the subscription. If any reader can find an “easy access”  to Herald Sun cartoons please let me know. I just can’t afford the monthly signup to The Aus, Fin Review, Herald Sun etc.
